Micah White, PhD is an influential social activist, public speaker and the former Adbusters editor who co-launched the Occupy Wall Street movement. His new book, THE END OF PROTEST (Penguin Random House Canada, 2016), explores the future of activism, global social movements, the paradigms of protest, and the influence of media on the mental environment.
White received his MA and PhD (summe cum laude) in Media and Communications from the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. White holds a BA in Philosophy with a minor in Film and Media Studies and a minor in Interpretation Theory from Swarthmore College.
White’s essays on media and activism have been published internationally in periodicals including the Washington Post, New York Times, Guardian (UK), Limes: Rivista Italiana Di Geopolitica (Italy), and Adbusters. White has been profiled by The New Yorker, Grist, and the San Francisco Chronicle, and was recently named one of the 37 most influential under 35-year-olds alive today by Esquire. He has given the Grayson Kirk Distinguished Guest Lecture at Miami University as well as guest lectures at colleges, universities and festivals all over the country and abroad.
White has a twenty year record of innovative activism, including conceiving the debt-activism tactic used by theRolling Jubilee and popularizing the critique of clicktivism. He is the co-founder of Boutique Activist Consultancy.
